Abstract :
The authors present a few results from operational research considerations in order to highlight the advantages of the higher muzzle velocities that can be obtained by electrically driven guns. They then present an analysis of future military needs in anti-armor and anti-air missions. They also give a brief description of the joint French-German research program on electromagnetic launch technology. Three types of demonstrators are planned: an electrothermal gun, a railgun, and a coilgun. The stored electric energy will be 30 MJ for the first one and 10 to 15 MJ for the other two launchers. The tests with the subscale demonstrators are scheduled to begin in 1995
