  • Abstract
The introduction of the European-style motor starter into the US marketplace has revolutionized many segments of the electrical industry and has meant that IEC-style starters and contactors, with their small physical size and relatively lower cost, are replacing the traditional NEMA-style components. Major US starter manufacturers have restructured their product lines and are now focusing efforts on the market-driven IEC products. Allowable levels of overcurrent protection for these devices, as specified by the IEC and the National Electrical Code (NEC), are discussed
