Abstract :
The influence of the nonlinear refractive index and the group-velocity dispersion of optical fibers on optical-amplifier noise is studied. A new method is used to calculate the spectrum of the amplified spontaneous emission. The result shows that the positive dispersion is favorable for suppressing the enhancement of the amplifier noise.<>
