Abstract :
High-performance cut cores from the crystallized Fe-based amorphous ribbons FINEMET were prepared successfully. The core loss in FINEMET cores does not increase markedly by impregnation with epoxy resin, and the impregnated cores show promising soft magnetic properties. Although the core loss in FINEMET cut cures increases dramatically with increasing air-gap length, this increase can be suppressed by attaching thin ferrite plates to cut surfaces of the cores. The core loss in FINEMET cut cores with ferrite plates is comparable to that in Co-based amorphous cut cores in the frequency range of 20-100 kHz. The results suggest that FINEMET cut cores are promising as cores for high-frequency inductors of transformers
