Abstract :
The effect of a thin metal film with positive dielectric permittivity on the performance of an optical-fibre surface-plasmon-wave polariser is presented. A dramatic improvement has been achieved with polarisation extinction ratios in excess of 45 dB over an extended range of superstrate refractive indices.
