Abstract
A digital magnetic recording system model is used to investigate the effect of replay-head pole length on system performance. The use of replay equalization and asymmetric finite pole length replay heads is also examine briefly. It is found that, for a given recorded packing density, improved error-rate performance can be achieved with finite replay-head pole length in conjunction with pulse slimming
