Abstract :
This paper discusses how the western European automotive sector is in danger of disintegrating with the emergence of low-cost economies, particularly in eastern Europe and China. While production facilities currently operating in western Europe are mostly very modern and productive, these plants will age even with the aid of advanced technology. The possible relocation to eastern Europe or China will then become an issue when companies consider making new investment.
