Abstract
The author describes a method for the reconstruction of noisy underwater 3-D acoustic images. Depth and related confidence maps, obtained by a beamforming process, are modelled as Markov random fields. The probability distributions of the fields are specified by a single energy functional to be minimised for the optimal estimation
