Abstract
This paper discusses how energy harvesting techniques are being used in applications involving self-powered wireless networks of distributed sensors to monitor the condition of motors, turbines, pumps and gear boxes, in building automation, heating and ventilation control and for burglar alarms. Particular focus is given on piezoelectric (PZ) or electromagnetic (EM) systems for harvesting energy from regular vibrations.
