Abstract
This paper presents the motion adaptive search (MAS) that effectively utilizes the motion activity information to improve both the speed and the accuracy of motion search. The main features of MAS are: the early elimination of search by detecting the stationary macroblocks, the adaptation of both the search range and the search strategy based on the motion activity information, and the minimization of overlap of search points by performing intelligent search.
