Abstract :
The authors describe an analytic approach to equalizer design for the peak-detection method based on equalizing the readback signal to a specific target signal whose choice depends upon the recording density. Suitable target signals are specified in the time and the frequency domain. The spectral shaping of the equalized channel is specified in terms of minimum bandwidth dibit or transition-response signals. The specification allows the use of computer-aided methods to determine the equalizer parameters. The application of the method to disk-drive systems in which the readback signal varies with radial position is also discussed
