Abstract :
A DC-free modulation code with parameters (d, k c)=(0, 3, 5/2) is presented. A state-machine encoder converts 8-b blocks of user data to 10-b blocks of channel sequences in NRZI (nonreturn-to-zero invert) notation through state-dependent tables, which are decoded in 10-b blocks through a single table in a stateless, independent block fashion. The underlying constraint graph for the code is presented, and the extraction of practical 8/10 codes from the constraint graph is shown. Coding tables for a particular extraction are discussed, and the code is compared to similarly constrained modulation codes
