Abstract :
Transmission-equipment performance and operational difficulties associated with the supply of electricity to the densely populated areas of Kowloon is reviewed. The performance of gas-insulated switchgear is considered from its initial introduction in 1974 and is compared to internationally recognised statistics from which service experience and future developments are summarised. Information relating to power cable developments, fault statistic analysis and how these are influenced by the Hong Kong environment are discussed. The author attempts to embrace all these areas and give the reader an insight into the methods employed, and difficulties encountered, in retaining transmission availability in Hong Kong
