Abstract
A hypothesis for the birth of galactic cosmic rays in cosmic plasma pinches resulting from neck-type contractions that force plasma to jet outward is presented. It is shown that the accelerated particle energy, E , has a power law dependency dN /dE ~ E -s with index s =1+√3=2.732 at the moment of neck breaking or pinch disruption. This value coincides with an observed galactic cosmic ray index s =2.7. This result corroborates other evidence for the existence of electric currents in cosmic plasma
