Abstract :
At velocities comparable to the speed of light and in the presence of a magnetic field, the motion of a rarefied plasma should be described by the equations of ideal relativistic anisotropic magnetohydrodynamics (IRAMHD). The problem of neck formation on a relativistic pinch in the presence of a longitudinal magnetic field is analyzed using the IRAMHD formulation. The analysis shows that the spectrum of particles accelerated in the necks of relativistic pinches is similar to that observed from galactic cosmic rays
