Abstract :
The fabrication and characterization of some Co/Pt multilayers are described. The multilayers were deposited in a conventional sputtering system. Their magnetic and structural properties have been measured. The multilayers show a well-defined layered structure at the layer thicknesses at which optimum magnetic properties are obtained. The magnetic properties, including the domain structure, are consistent with a predominant perpendicular anisotropy in the multilayers and depend on the individual cobalt layer thickness and on the number of periods in the multilayer
