Abstract :
In this first part of a major feature on the selection and financial justification of NC turning machines, Dr Keith Rathmill MIProdE and Mr Tom Littlefield of UMIST, discuss the criteria to be applied when selecting an NC lathe. A second article next month will consider the financial justification of buying an NC lathe. The authors´ work is based on observations made during a study carried out jointly by UMIST and Edbro Ltd, Bolton.
