Abstract :
It is argued that enhanced vision, a system that includes sensors capable of supporting the means for safe operation in a low-visibility (fog) environment, should be part of a nested capability to provide seamless, safe, and efficient gate-to-gate operation, in any environment. It is not a stand-alone function; sensor selection criteria must support functional integration with other avionics. A modular-architecture multiple-function sensor approach to cost-effective enhanced vision system capability is described.<>
