  • Abstract
Energy continues to be an essential key to worldwide development. For the past two decades the cost and availability of energy sources have dominated world politics, dictating many political decisions. In order to give consideration to the environmental impact associated with increasing emissions from the use of fossil fuels, alternative energy options are considered in the context of current knowledge and the authors´ own perception of these alternatives. The direct relationship between electricity and economic growth and the consequent benefits to society are also explored
