Abstract
The structure of Co/Cr and Co/W magnetic multilayers has been characterized by high-resolution electron microscopy and correlated with the magnetic properties determined using a vibrating sample magnetometer. It is shown that the layer thickness, crystal texture, and degree of interfacial mixing effect the magnetic properties. Mixing at the interfaces has been observed, resulting in a reduction of the Co able to contribute to the magnetization of the magnetic multilayer films
