Abstract :
The Heidelberg MP-tandem has been used to produce highly stripped ions of S14,15,16+, Ni20+ and Br23+ which subsequently were decelerated by the normal conducting rf-postaccelerator. The minimum energy obtained so far in the deceleration mode is 0.15 MeV/amu for S15+. Although the beam transmission is decreasing with decreasing final energy because of a longitudinal and transverse emittance growth, decelerated beams have been routinely used for atomic physics experiments.
