Abstract
The Control and Automation Professional Network (PN) has announced the launch of four new Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The emergence of these groups has followed discussion with PN members, who identified the need for smaller groups within the PN, which can bring together those involved in particular specialist areas to provide a forum for discussion and innovation. The groups will be run through the computing and control sector discussion forums. The aim is to bring these groups together, initiate discussion and form a community. Topics of particular interest may be highlighted in articles on the PN Web site and may also generate ideas for future events. In more established areas there is still a need to pool ideas in a central forum, and again topics and ideas will be highlighted. The aim is for the discussions to be dynamic and to help build vibrant communities.
