Abstract
Bad experiences from the past - where changes in ambient light adversely affected system performance - have made engineers sceptical about adopting machine vision into their production processes. The latest generation of cameras and system software removes many of their issues. During the development of the system the versatility of machine vision software is important because changes invariably require reconfiguration. In relation to the installed system the down-times from subsequent processes could be decreased to zero due to the correct identification that the vision system provides; and as a result of the productivity has increased accordingly.
