Abstract
Fit designs of magnetic shielding of the solenoidal-type superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) for reduction of magnetic fields in a living environment are discussed. When some superconducting shielding coils are over the main storage coil, the magnetic field is reduced significantly over the case of unshielded coils. The calculated results of the magnetic field are obtained by the finite-element method. The toroidal-type SMES is studied. The leakage magnetic field is lower than in the solenoid-type SMES, but the electromagnetic force of the coil is very strong. A numerical analysis of magnetic field in the toroidal-type SMES is described by analytical calculation.
