Abstract :
A requirement for fast detection of CN gas maser radiation has led to the discovery that some germanium point-contact mixer diodes have useful signal/noise ratios at power levels easily obtainable with such a pulsed maser source. The performance of a number of diodes has been evaluated using free-space mounting of the crystals.
