Abstract
A VLSI system design course that provides students with an opportunity to learn about and experience the entire VLSI chip design from the system level down to the layout level is described. The full-custom design project has a time constraint of 14 weeks, one semester. It is shown that students not only understand design issues at the system and logic levels, but also experience the impact of design decisions at system level on the chip layout
