Lyapunov functionals for a class of wave equations

For a class of wave equations, a method of determining a suitable Lyapunov functional guaranteeing asymptotic stability is developed. The method is based on the construction of Lyapunov functions for ordinary differential equations. For a particular example, results identical to those determined from an eigenfunction expansion are obtained.
