Abstract :
Mode conversion of v.l.f. radio waves in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide is considered. It is indicated that the transition distance ¿d between day and night may be deduced, in a semiquantitative manner, from the observed fading characteristics. Values of ¿d in the range 300¿700 km are suggested.
