Abstract :
Silicon-controlled-rectifier (SCR) power supplies employing capacitor input filters cause large-pulse line currents. Usually the associated transformer is designed to have a minimal amount of leakage inductance. This paper studies such a system and concludes that there is an optimum value of leakage inductance that minimizes the line current and the transformer size. SCR and capacitor currents are also reduced. Design equations and curves are included.
