Abstract :
An improved macroblock mode selection method based on the ROPE algorithm is proposed for the H.264/AVC encoder. The proposed method avoids the recursive calculation of second moment values by using the standard deviation. Simulation results show much improved performance over the method in the current H.264/AVC reference encoder.
