Dispersive effects in microstrip on alumina substrates

The effect of dispersion on the phase velocity of microstrip transmission line on 99.5% alumina has been investigated by various methods. A comparison of these methods, together with a sample of the results obtained, is presented. The observed dispersion is discussed, and a simple empirical correction to the TEM approximation is outlined which accounts for this effect in 0.025 in-thick substrates.
