Abstract :
It is argued that the ´good news´ about bad news is that when you handle it correctly you can avoid discouraging people. Even when it is unambiguously bad news, being clear and honest and treating people with respect serves everyone best. Any change, even when its good news, will make people nervous. People need time to absorb information, to consider how it will impact them and their colleagues, and to come up with questions. The author now realizes that the best thing a manger can do is to be available. You will have to reach out to some people. Others will seek you out. Some will respond to you just being around.
