Abstract
The development of two types of broadband binary 180° diode phase modulators is disclosed. One type uses two waveguide paths with a diode switch in each arm to alternate between RF transmission paths. The phase modulation is obtained by an arrangement of E-plane and H-plane T junctions. The other type of phase modulator makes use of the reflection properties of a diode terminating a transmission line in conjunction with a 3-db coupler or circulator.
