Abstract
A comparative statistical study of durations D of rainfall rates R is presented for the temperate region of Barcelona and the tropical region of Ile-Ife (Nigeria). It is shown that the conditional distribution P(D mod R) is log normal for the two regions but the mean duration is smaller for the tropical region than for the temperate one. Consideration is given to the value of D for both regions, to the variability sigma D and to the database required for the statistical study.
