Abstract
A new unconditionally stable implicit computational method for solving the Maxwell´s Equations has been developed. A fully implicit solution of the magnetic field is first obtained, and the electric field is then backsolved from the known magnetic field solution. Test calculations using Courant number as high as 140 show excellent comparison with known exact solutions. The implicit method overcomes the Courant time step limitation encountered by the explicit method. It allows computation of the field to be limited by the highest frequency of interest rather than numerical instability, thus lowering computation costs significantly.
