Abstract
This paper discusses the problem of alarm and message processing in modern control centers. Background is presented on the causes for increased message handling and the need to adjust to the limited ability of users to digest large volumes of information. Two techniques. Statically Adaptive and Dynamically Adaptive message processing, are discussed as methods for adjusting to changes in the users´ requirements and to changes in the power system. A concluding discussion of Artificial Intelligence suggests that this developing technology may provide solutions to problems not readily solved with adaptive message processing techniques.
