Abstract :
Real time availability of dynamic voltage phase angle, voltage magnitude, and other power system quantities, from stations many miles apart allows accurate monitoring of system response to actual disturbances. Development of an encoding method allowing use of common digital communications hardware and protocols is discussed. One method of implementation is described in detail, with prototype experience presented. Additional documentation is planned to detail hardware and message reliability data now being gathered.
