Abstract :
France´s bid to become the European leader in technology is examined. This effort is embodied in its technipoles, i.e. technology centers that combine development efforts made by numerous groups-national and regional, public and private, and industrial and academic. The operation of the technipoles is discussed, and a five-day press tour that demonstrated the work being done in a few of France´s high-tech public laboratories and private companies is described.<>
