Abstract
Advances in silicon circuit technology have come traditionally from three sources: technology innovation, linewidth reduction, and design innovation. The contributions to this year??s Special Issue on Semiconductor Logic and Memory are no exception; advances have been demonstrated on all three of these fronts. In addition, there is a sharply increased emphasis on the architectural and system definition issues that precede the implementation of microprocessor circuits.
