Abstract
The decay of N=2 solitons, initiated by a step increase in dispersion, is demonstrated as a means of generating pulse pairs having wavelengths that are shifted to either side of the input wavelength. Varying the magnitude of the dispersion step controls the wavelength separation. Partial recovery of the original soliton is also demonstrated by using a reverse dispersion step at a farther location.
