Abstract
Following a general description of the properties and concepts associated with superconductivity, a brief review of the recent status of research on high-temperature superconducting oxides is given. Suggestions are made concerning possible lines of research that might prove fruitful in choosing between alternative theories for the phenomena. The reports of possible superconductivity well above 100 K are discussed.
