Abstract :
By the Wiener-Hopf technique the problem of the surface mode reflection from an abruptly terminated dielectric tube is solved. Analysis is made under weak-guidance condition. The solution obtained is compared with those, derived by the approximate methods: the several versions of the variational technique and the method of approximate factorisation. The smallest error is shown to be obtained by the mixed formulation of the variational principle
