Abstract :
Two different approaches to optimising the performance of the roll-loop in a bank-to-turn (BTT) CLOS guidance system are considered. The first minimises integral squared error, while the second produces a design which is optimal in a minimum-time sense. The performances of the roll-loops are studied both in isolation and within the BTT CLOS guidance system. A conventional roll-loop design is also considered for comparison purposes. Simulation results demonstrate the improvements associated with these optimal designs. Sensitivity to parameter variations is also investigated.
