Abstract :
The distinctly nonlinear input-output characteristics of a nonlinear element consisting of a semiconductor laser amplifier (SLA) in a loop mirror configuration (SLALOM) that may be utilized for pulse shaping and noise reduction is described. As an example, it is shown that nearly unlimited circulations of optical pulses in a fiber ring are possible.<>
