Abstract :
The WIPP site has unique requirements for monitoring geologic stress build-up, convergence and creep in in-elastic salt rock. The status of site construction activities and the role of geotechnical instrumentation in the WIPP mission are covered including the special problems of deformation and stress measurements in salt. A brief discussion of the geotechnical instruments specified is presented along with the requirements of the readout equipment. Instrument locations, wiring information, data acquisition system block diagrams and functional requirements of the data logger are also shown.
