Abstract :
An efficiency optimized single photon tomographic system, GAMMATOM-1, is developed and its performance is studied. The system consists of 36 NaI(Tl) crystals of 2cm (diameter) × 3.8cm (length) arranged in a circular form with four banks or arcs (each arc with 9 NaI(Tl) crystals). Resolution of 7mm fwhm is obtained with a 16cm diameter resolution-phantom of 99mTc. Sensitivity of the system has also been measured and obtained 10K ~ 15K (counts/sec) / (¿Ci/cc) with a 20cm diameter uniform circular phantom of 99mTc. System design details and performance are reported.
