Abstract
The fact that stereo sound is now being broadcast with television programmes in the UK is not a pioneering enterprise, since West Germany, the USA and Japan, to name but a few, have already pipped Britain to the post. However, the author describes how the UK is the first country to have implemented a national standard for terrestrial stereo broadcasts that is digital, as opposed to the analogue standards of the other countries mentioned, opening the door to higher sound quality and a more robust transmitted signal
