Abstract
The UK´s privatised electricity market is the first of its kind in the world; the rules devised to make it work are complex and contentious, with questionable implications for the industry´s future. The author defines the nature of the UK electricity pool and the setting of the price at which electricity is traded-the pool price. The basic principle of payments to generators, and the contracts between generators and suppliers, are also discussed
