Abstract :
Broadband ( Delta lambda >50 nm), low-loss (<0.02 dB), single-fibre devices are presented that can switch orthogonal polarisation modes in singlemode fibres, and polarisation and spatial modes in two-mode elliptical core fibres. These devices eliminate the need for a 90 degrees rotary splice and are useful in several fibre optic applications.
