Abstract
The design of a new AM/FM integrated circuit was prompted by two primary considerations, cost and space. Cost reductions have always been a strong motivation for IC development; also space requirements are becoming increasingly important as more electronics are crammed into consumer equipment. An excellent and relevant example of a space problem is the packaging difficulty encountered in designing an AM/FM radio-citizens band transceiver combination to fit into the dashboard of a car.
